Breakell Racing competed in the 750MC Bikesports championship again for another year. 2017 saw us compete with 3 cars for the season. Our driver line up consisted of Adrian Reynard in his SR3 RS (Class A), Phil Knibb in the Breakell Racing Orange Radical SR3 RSX (Class A), and Charles Graham in his Radical SR3 RS (Class B).
Good results across the board for all drivers in all races. Adrian Reynard had an overall race win at Brands Hatch mid-season as well as a number of class podium finishes at other circuits proving he is still a force to be reckoned with on track.
Phil Knibb drove the Breakell Racing Radical SR3 RSX in the first few Bikesports race meetings of the 2017 season in defence of his 2016 overall championship win.
Phil kept up his usual style of quick qualifying laps putting our SR3 on the front row for the majority of starting grids and collected good results in most races. Phil’s results included class podiums at Donington, Silverstone National, two class wins at Anglesey and 2nd overall finishes in both races at Silverstone National.
Charles Graham drove well all year with a steady progression of good results over the year. The Silverstone International race meeting was a highlight with Charles finishing 1st in class B in race 1 which was an amazing result.
At the Anglesey Bikesports race meeting F3 Cup Driver and Stunt man Wade Eastwood joined Charles to race in the Bikesports races. The pair would do a race a piece in the car. Wade won the Bikesports race 1 out right and Charles drove a stunning drive in race 2 to finish 6th in class B.
Later on in the year renowned racer and Rock Star Neil Primrose joined Breakell Racing for the Silverstone international round of the Bikesports Championship. Neil drove our Orange SR3 RSX in both races to finish 4th in Class and 4th overall in race 1.
We also competed in one round of the OSS championship in 2017 at Silverstone with Guest driver James Abbott.
James is an extremely experienced Radical racer who has driven nearly every model of Radical competitively over the years in his previous roll as Radical Development driver.
James Drove really well in all races and drove our Orange SR3 RSX to Class podiums in all races.
In 2017 Breakell Racing competed in the Birkett 6hr relay race at Silverstone GP circuit. This year we fielded our own team called Breakell Racing Heroes. The driver line up for this event consisted of 2017 Bikesports Champion Sefano Leaney, 2010/2011 Bikesports Champion Richard Stables & Son Joe Stables, and Bikesports Competitors Charles Graham and Julian Caldwell.
Our race got off to a great start for us with Stefano taking an early lead and by the end of the first hour we had a 30 second advantage over the rest of the competition. Hour’s two and three we maintained the lead of the race until mechanical failures on Julian’s and Richards cars put us down to 3rd overall on the round. The rest of the race turned into damage control as we fought our way back to 2nd place. Joe Stables drove a really impressive final stint to secure us second place overall.
It was a fantastic result and another podium finish for Breakell Racing to round off the 2017 season.
In 2017 Breakell Racing raced in the VLN championship for another year. James Breakell drove the WS Racing Opel Astra OPC Cup car for another year in the 3rd and 6th rounds of the VLN championship.
James drove in the VLN3 4 hour race with co-drivers Mario Handrick, and Philip Schauerte and in VLN6 with co- driver Thorsten Willems
Both races were epic and all drivers drove fantastic stints.
In VLN 3 we managed a Class win which was a fantastic achievement and in VLN6 we finished 2nd in class.
Two excellent results for the guys and more podium finishes for Breakell Racing to round off a good year.
