Breakell Racing Charge To Knockhill Porsche Podium Hat-Trick

Breakell Racing secured a brilliant podium treble as Reece Somerfield and Karim Sekkat put in great performances during the latest round of the Porsche Sprint Challenge GB at Knockhill this past weekend (16-17 August).

Somerfield headed into the event with an impressive tally of six podium finishes in the RS AM class from the opening nine races of the season. He put himself in prime position to secure more silverware by qualifying third in class around the undulating Fife circuit.

The experienced racer put in a brilliant drive in the opening race, moving up to second on lap two and holding it through the race with a composed drive and expert defence. He remained in the thick of the action in Sunday’s two races, enjoying some exciting wheel-to-wheel racing on his way to completing a superb hat-trick of podium finishes.

Sekkat meanwhile enjoyed one of the best weekends of his season to date. Qualifying sixth in the RS AM class, he made quick progress to fifth at the start of race one and went on to match the pace of the podium contenders as he held position to the finish.

The Moroccan racer put in a brilliant drive in race two, pulling off some eye-catching moves as he charged forward three places to cross the line in third. An unfortunate time penalty dropped him to fifth though, and he replicated that result in the final race after once again running hot on the heels of the podium contenders.

James Breakell: “We hadn’t been up to Knockhill for a few years, since our amazing overall win there in the Ginetta GT4 SuperCup in 2022, so it was great to go back and enjoy another successful weekend at a fantastic circuit.

“Reece was once again on top form, pulling off some mega overtaking moves and picking up three great podium finishes. Karim had one of his best weekends in the RS so far, running consistently in the mix for the podium and he was unlucky not to come away with a trophy. We’re confident both drivers will build on their performances and enjoy a great end to the season.”

The 2025 Porsche Sprint Challenge GB season continues next month (20-21 September) with the penultimate round of the season at Silverstone.
