Leading GT race team Breakell Racing are set for a bumper season of competition in 2025, targeting continued success in a couple of the biggest one-make GT championships in the UK, as well as enjoying an expanded programme on the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
After firmly establishing themselves as a formidable force in the national racing scene in recent years, the Lancashire-based team have more silverware in their sights as they mount entries into the Porsche Sprint Challenge GB and Ginetta GT Championship this season.
Alongside this, they will be continuing their long-standing association with one of the most famous race circuits in the world, contesting multiple rounds of the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie and taking to the grid for the ADAC RAVENOL 24h Nürburgring.
The team have expanded their offering at the Nürburgring with the purchase of a BMW M240iR. Eligible for the hugely-competitive BMW M240 Trophy class, the entry-level DPN permit B car can be used by international race license holders to contest their first races on the Nordschleife.
With the team also continuing to run their Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport at the Nürburgring, Breakell Racing can offer a full in-house arrive and drive service for newcomers to the Nordschleife; taking them through from acquiring their DPN permit, to contesting their first races and stepping up to GT4 machinery.
In addition to running a Cayman in Germany, they will once again be running a pair of them in the Sprint Challenge GB this season. Off the back of a brilliant 2024 campaign together, they’re welcoming back an unchanged driver line-up for 2025 with Reece Somerfield and Karim Sekkat.
Somerfield will once again compete in the latest-generation RS model, having scored three class wins en-route to third in the RS AM class last season. Sekkat meanwhile steps up to race in an RS too, having also won three times and secured a top three points finish in the older Clubsport model last year.
Alongside competing on the BTCC support bill in Porsche’s, Breakell Racing will also have a presence on the British GT package with Ginetta. They have a rich history with the manufacturer, as former GT4 SuperCup class champions and race-winners in the GT Championship and GT Academy.
Carl Garnett returns to the GT Championship in a brand-new V8-powered Ginetta G56 GTP8. The Yorkshireman scored five overall podium finishes with the team in 2023, having previously impressively twice finished as class vice-champion in the GT4 SuperCup.
James Breakell - Team Principal: “We’re excited to announce our plans for the 2025 season. We’ve been working incredibly hard behind the scenes over the winter to put these race programmes together and we’re ready to get back on track again and show everyone what we can do as a team.
“Reece, Karim and Carl are drivers we’re used to working with and that we know are capable of challenging for silverware in their respective classes. We’re confident we’re be able to provide the support they need to enjoy some fantastic successes across the season.
“Acquiring the BMW M240iR is an exciting next step for us in our Nürburgring programme, enhancing the package we can offer and providing a clear path for drivers to go from completing their first laps on the Nordschleife to racing there in thoroughbred GT4 machinery.”
Breakell Racing’s 2025 season gets underway this coming weekend (05-06 April) with the opening round of the Ginetta GT Championship season at Donington Park. A new format for the series this year will see them contest a 20-minute sprint race and a 40-minute mini-endurance race over the weekend.
